Why Wave supports the White Ribbon Campaign
Last week, I crushed my toes, strained my ankles and stretched my calves as myself and 16 members of the Wave team wore heels and participated in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in support of the White Ribbon Campaign. The White Ribbon Campaign is the largest effort in the world of men working to end violence against women. The event offered us an opportunity to support and advocate for the women in our community.
As Wave continues to grow, I am so proud of how our team participates in events that have an impact on our community. Oftentimes we are involved in events to support the Toronto tech community, which has highlighted to me that women are quite underrepresented in this field. With our efforts in the walk we took a small step to support the women in the Wave office, those in the tech community and all others around the globe.
As a father of three young boys, I believe it is important to spread the message that gender-based violence affects us all and I’d like to reinforce that we should all advocate for safety in our community, and do our part to help in any way we can.
The strong, smart and talented women of Wave have played a crucial role in making our organization one I will be forever proud of. I want to encourage everyone to support the women you work with, and take steps (in heels if you like) to make your city a safer place.
